We’ve seen phones come in all shapes and sizes over the years, but it looks like the next “Project Gem” Essential device could go in yet another direction. “Project Gem” by Essential Android co-founder and Essential CEO Andy Rubin postd pictures of the new device on Twitter, which is taller and thinner than we’re use to with phones. The phone is also to have a “new user interface in a completely different format.” Other images and video showing the back of the device indicate mirror colors that change shades at different angles. In December, Essential announce that its debut phone, the PH-1, had been discontinud, but a follow-up device was promisd and continues to release software updates.

In a world where phone screens are getting bigger and wider – including second screens – getting taller to customize the placement of important information and notifications is certainly one way to stand out.
